How To Brew Espresso At Home (Without An Espresso Machine)

You don’t need a home espresso machine to experience the richness of an espresso roast. In fact, some of the best ways to enjoy our specialty espresso blends involve the equipment you already have in your kitchen.

Whether you are a fan of our best selling Espresso Roast Blend, Relentless, or you prefer an alternative, it’s time to break the rules of brewing.

Here is how to master the home barista craft using your standard coffee tools.

The Drip Machine Method

Many of our customers enjoy our roasts through a standard drip machine. This method highlights the body and sweetness of the bean without the intense acidity sometimes found in pressurized shots.

Barista Hack: Use a slightly finer grind than usual to mimic the strength of an espresso.

The French Press Espresso

For a cup that mimics the heavy mouthfeel of a Café latte, the French Press is your best friend. Because many french press devices uses a metal mesh filter, the natural oils of the espresso roast stay in your cup.

Barista Hack: Let it steep for 4 full minutes for maximum extraction.

Master Your Ratios

The secret to a truly perfect cup isn't the machine... it’s the water-to-grounds ratio. We encourage you to play with your profile!

For Strength: Increase the grounds by 10%.

For Body: Decrease the water for a short* pour.

*A short black is just a straight-up shot of espresso, with no added milk or water. Think of it as espresso in its birthday suit.

The Rules are Yours

While our bags include brewing guides, nothing is set in stone. Your kitchen is your lab. Develop your own strength and body preferences, and as always, share your results with those you love!

Happy Brewing, Home Baristas!
