This lot is an exclusive single holder producer lot from AponteVillage in Tablon de Gomez. The coffee cherries were produced by Zanaida Adarme and sold in parchment to be further dry milled by Pergamino part of their exclusive single producers Allied Farmers Project in Medellin. Zanaida started growing coffee 10 years ago, supported by several government programs that wanted to incentivize the production of coffee in regions that were hard hit by the violence in the 90's. Initially she started processing all of her coffee exclusively as washed, which is common in Nariño, but a couple of years ago she started to produce and ferment them as honeys, by recommendation of a neighbor that was receiving premiums for their coffee. She is a mother of 4 children and is married to Luis Edmundo Chasoy another Aponte coffee producer which we have had the honor this year to purchase his entire lot as well in tandem with Zanaida's coffee. They each own separate parcel plots of land to grow their own coffee. Although her harvest volume output this year was not as ideal as recent years, higher local prices and premiums have helped her and her entire family get by. Zanaida and Luis are now looking at coffee as a possibility for a brighter future, instead of looking towards having to create a different way of life outside of their community and forced to abandon everything in order to move closer to a city for alternative opportunities outside of coffee.
