Brewing With A Coffee Maker (And For A Large Group)

Brewing With A Coffee Maker (And For A Large Group)

Most people have their daily coffee ritual- brewing their favorite beans, in their favorite way, and just enough for their own cup or for their family.

But brewing coffee for a large group can be time-consuming, cumbersome, or even confusing.

With a few tips, we’ll try to take some of the pressure off. And hey, why not impress the bunch?

Step 1: Start with the right beans

Knowing the flavor preferences of your crowd will ensure you will impress. We suggest choosing a delicious medium roast coffee that will appeal to your darker roast lovers, but will also offer complexity for those who enjoy a lighter roast.

Our blends fall on a spectrum with Darkest Days and Valient being on the more roasted side and Bright Side being brighter.

Dawn 2 Dusk falls right in the middle, and this is the roast we find most approachable and widely accepted in our cafe.

Step 2: Prepare your coffee maker

Great tasting coffee is possible with a coffee maker- even an ancient one!

First, make sure the coffee maker is good and clean. A neglected coffee maker is common, so give it a good wash with hot water and soap. You can quickly clean the brewer of residue, mold, or bacteria by brewing a pot of a 1:1 white vinegar and water solution.

After, be sure to brew 2 more pots of clean water to ensure no vinegar residue remains.

Step 3: Dial it in

Next, dial in the right amount of coffee to water. We recommend a 15:1 ratio of water to coffee. Tare the coffee pot on a scale and weigh the amount of water you’ll be brewing.

Next, divide by 15 to determine the amount of coffee you’ll need. (Example: 640 grams water divided by 15 would equal 42.7 grams. So, if you used 640 grams of water, then 42-43 grams coffee is where you would want to be.)

Step 4: Grind it up

What about the grind, you ask? Grind your beautiful beans to a medium coarse grind.

Step 5: Brew and enjoy

Gatherings with friends and family are a special time to spend with loved ones. And what better way to show your love than to share some great coffee?

But no matter how it turns out, the company you keep is what matters most.

Happy brewing and sipping, and Get it, Get it, Get it!
